The GONGS are in tune - Starting Monday 13th March 7.30pm

Date: 10th March 2017 | By: Mal

Around 120 entries over eight categories prove the interest in regional film making. The region has recently enjoyed workshops by BFI, CTVC/Vivid Echo, Bridgeway and Screen Yorkshire encouraging new talent.  The creation of the film collaboration, Humber Film, followed last year’s GONGS and the encouragement of the Hull and Humber Film Makers Forum.  There’s been weekend film challenges for all-comers including Hull Film Kabaret and Shoot it.  All this happened during a period when the Humber region has been in the limelight for locations, both urban and rural, for major film projects.  We’ll be erecting massive white HUMBER lettering on the Wolds soon as the big HOLLYWOOD sign deteriorates.

There’s a full week of events dedicated to regional film making and everyone is invited.

On Monday, last year’s Documentary winner, Sean McAllister, (A Syrian Love Story) is going to be with us, to be joined by his collaborator, Rupert Creed to then discuss the making of ‘Made in Hull’.

On Tuesday the Education and Message GONGS will be screened, supported by outrageous monologue performances by Lynda Harrison in various guises. I’ll grab Chris Hees too!

On Wednesday the Short and Animation GONG screenings will surround performances by comedian Jack Gleadow. Chris might get grabbed again.

On Thursday the Drama and Comedy GONGS will have the support of gypsy jazz by the wonderful Route de Django.

Friday is music all the way , including Imogen Hart.

Saturday’s Gala GONG Presentation Evening will be accompanied by classical music from Culture : Hull.

On each evening we will screen a snippet of all entries, commendations and the winning film.  We’ll chat with the film makers and present certificates before the big Gala GONG Presentation evening on Saturday 18th

Weekday tickets are just £5 with all evenings starting at 7.30 pm. There may be some tickets available for Saturday at £10. They are available from K94 and can be reserved by emailing screen@kardomah94.com.

In addition to The Rank Foundation, the week is generously supported by Rollits, For Entrepreneurs Only, Spencer British Engineering, Hull Kingston Radio 107.4 and Sonoco Trident.
